Knut Erik Sundquist (double bass) and Atle Sponberg (violin) - two wizards of classical music, take us on a journey from the middle ages to Lady Gaga. World class playing and humour from two Nordic heroes with a bowl of hot soup and fine company!
Sundquist and Sponberg open the festival week´s morning events at Ludo with a virtuosic cavalcade which races across the centuries. When it comes to string playing Knut Erik and Atle are the quickest gun slingers in the country, maybe in the world. They take us from a time when notes were square to Lady Gaga, who is anything but square. Expect some lashings of quickfire humour and self irony as they shine fresh light on music history.
These denisons of classical music produce exquisite sounds and are kings of their instruments. Young and old have been inspired by their enthusiasm, virtuosity and above all their joy of performance. You will find yourself educated and giggling at the same time. Knut Erik and Atle remind us that classical music is for the people, and is neither exclusive nor elitist.
Knut Erik Sundquist is world renowned and adored. He has graced the whole of Europe and appeared at New York´s Carnegie Hall. He is a regional musician employed by Kultur i Troms and a graduate of the Music Conservatory in Tromsø. Sundquist is based in our festival town of Harstad and pops up in different guises with musicians from all types of backgrounds.
Atle Sponberg is a classical violinist from Gjøvik, perhaps most well known for his love of argentinian tango. He has been the leader of Det Norske Kammerorkester and KORK (Radio Orchestra) for many years, but has also collaborated with Tango for 3, Engegårdkvartetten, Oslo Camerata and numerous projects in different musical genres. At present he is a lecturer at the Music Conservatory in Tromsø, whilst still pursuing a highly active international career.
This concert at Ludo is presented in collaboration with Kultur i Troms.
