What happens when northern Norway´s most charming band of brothers joins forces with the region´s crack symphony orchestra? The answer is clearly that you will get to experience two northern mastodons at next year´s festival, when Violet Road and the Arctic Philharmonic and Opera meet in concert. With surprise guests!
Violet Road + Arctic Philharmonic and Opera – The pride of northern Norway comes together to present a fiendishly festive musical party!
Live music performed by topnotch musicians who are delighted to be on the bill of the Arctic Arts Festival in 2016. Following tours countrywide with songs that have become veritable anthems, Violet Road arrive in Harstad with fresh material for a world premiere with the Arctic Philharmonic and Opera. Replete with their famously dapper hats, the band bring us a concert with a capital C. Not only that but they are joined by some special guests who will bring added cache to this must see event.
Who these guests are remains a mystery and our new director´s lips are tightly sealed. This charming band of brothers from Kåfjord and crack vocalist Kjetil Holmstad-Solberg from Andenes will deliver powerful rock melodies and tear-jerkers illustrated by lush orchestrations. Sweet harmonies will fill the air as the musicians pick up the squeeze box, mandolin and saxophone. A rainbow of musical colours topped off with a dash of Swedish Folksong!
In 2013 the band released the album "Peter Every and his Marching Band" and the follow-up ”Back to the roadshow” was one of Sony´s highest selling albums last year. ”Can you hear the morning singing” and ”Face of the moon” became particular favourites. In 2016 they launch their We are the love tour in conjunction with the release of the new album ”In Town to Get You”. Programme director Catharina Bilsbak from the Arctic Philharmonic and Opera is overjoyed that this collaboration between the orchestra and the Arctic Arts Festival could be realized.
- We have striven to make this a reality for a long time. NOSO and Violet Road performed together at the opening ceremony of the 2014 World Chess Championship in Tromsø. Since then we have kept a dialogue going in an effort to find an opportunity to present a bigger project together. So when the Arctic Arts Festival set the ball rolling it was a match made in heaven, states Bilsbak.
NOSO is an orchestra with a strong arctic profile, and is fiercely proud of its northern Norwegian identity.
- It is important for us to have close collaborations with various organisations in the north regardless of their musical focus. It´s a joy to break through artistic boundaries
at the Arctic Arts Festival and present some of the region´s finest artists, underlines the programme director.
