Pianist Aaron Parks is one of the leading younger jazz pianists on the scene today, and has made an international mark with his forward-looking, modern style. Aaron studied with the acclaimed pianist Kenny Barron and has performed with a range of artists, including trumpeter Christian Scott, drummer Kendrick Scott, vocalist Gretchen Parlato and many others. Parks has released several albums under his own name, including his 2008 debut on Blue Note Records, Invisible Cinema.
Parks, who has also recorded with Christian Scott, Kendrick Scott, Ambrose Akinmusire and Kurt Rosenwinkel, was a key member of the James Farm Quartet alongside Joshua Redman, Matt Penman and Eric Harland.
Anders Christensen’s own band also includes Aaron Parks, as well as the legendary Paul Motian. This contributes significantly to the trio’s strong interplay and shared musical understanding – something that cannot simply be rehearsed.
Cornelia Nilsson brings a distinctive and powerful voice to the trio. After Parks appeared on her album Where Do You Go?, it became clear that there was a strong musical kinship between them. Her authority behind the drums and deep swing give the trio fresh momentum.
This concert is for you if you:
- like modern acoustic jazz in trio format
- appreciate close, attentive interplay
- want to experience established and new jazz voices in dialogue
