When Anna and Biret meet in the gamme, Anna is ready with hot chocolate and a cosy surprise. Biret already has wet feet. She prefers being indoors, surrounded by lots of people, without having to worry about animals and nature lurking beyond the thin walls of the gamme. Anna simply wants to be with Biret, and to stop being afraid of doing something wrong or of the other children in class looking at her strangely.
The performance draws on children’s own thoughts and feelings: the desire to belong, the fear of making mistakes, and the need to feel safe.
A gamme full of stories
It turns out that the gamme is filled with stories. From hidden corners, various guests quietly emerge. Some are helpful, others frightening – and some are both. The stories that unfold are rooted in Sámi storytelling traditions and are playfully brought to life in ways that feel accessible and recognisable for children.
There is room here for laughter, suspense and wonder, and the audience is invited into an imaginative universe where the unknown is not necessarily dangerous.
Almost Not Afraid at All
Somewhere between the Northern Lights and the underground beings, Anna and Biret search for ways to be a little less afraid. Not by becoming completely fearless, but by daring a little more – together.
Binnánaš balus – Almost Not Afraid at All is a performance for children that takes their feelings seriously, showing how courage can grow through togetherness.
This performance is suitable for you if you:
- are between 5 and 9 years old
- are curious about imagination, storytelling and Sámi worlds
- are a parent, guardian or teacher looking for a performance that meets children’s feelings with warmth and respect
