High Noon (NO)

– who owns the story of the North?

High Noon (NO)

The Arctic is no longer a periphery. The High North has become a geopolitical centre – marked by great power rivalry, climate change and an increased military presence. Yet amid all the strategies, analyses and maps, are those of us who live here truly seen and heard?

From Wednesday to Friday, the True Northern Arts Festival and High North News, led by editor Arne O. Holm, invite audiences to a new edition of High Noon – the festival’s own debate series, where art and politics meet face to face.

In the heart of our times – at the heart of the day

In a short space of time, High Noon has established itself as an important meeting place during the festival. Here, the big questions are brought down to earth and situated within a Northern Norwegian reality. The format combines conversations, perspectives from compelling voices, and artistic contributions.

This year’s edition takes as its starting point one fundamental question: Do they see us who live here – all those who want a piece of us? When the world turns its gaze northwards, what happens to everyday life, identity and local communities?

Debate with a pulse

Over three days, we explore the role of the High North in an unsettled time. The programme and further details will be announced on an ongoing basis – in the North, developments move quickly. The common thread is an open, inquisitive and artistically grounded conversation about power, belonging and the future.

High Noon is for anyone who wants to better understand what is happening around us – and to us.

This debate is for you if you:

  • are curious about politics, society and the role of the High North in the world
  • appreciate the combination of artistic elements and sharp discussion
  • want to take part in a timely and vibrant debate in the midst of the festival
