Workshop with Lawrence Malstaf: ESSO.S

Workshop with Lawrence Malstaf: ESSO.S

Join in and help shape the future meeting place on the ESSO site.

How can a former industrial area become a new, vibrant place to gather? ESSO.S is a long-term project that will be developed into a pavilion – a sculptural and social meeting place on the ESSO site north of Harstad city centre. Now, audiences are invited into the process.

During the True Northern Arts Festival, a three-day workshop will be led by visual artist and industrial designer Lawrence Malstaf. Together, we will explore the area’s history, landscape and possibilities. Through a botanical walk and test constructions using reused materials, we will gather ideas and concrete input on what the pavilion might become – and how it might be built.

From idea to construction

The workshop combines conversation, local knowledge and practical work. What does the landscape tell us? Which materials are already present on site? How can we build with care for both history and the future?

The results of the workshop will form the basis for further work, with the aim of having the main structure ready for the True Northern Arts Festival in 2027.

You can take part for one day or all three. No prior experience is required – just curiosity and a desire to contribute.
