How do you revive a dance that is disappearing?
When the Italian choreographer Alessandro Sciarroni became interested in the polka chinata in 2018, there were only five dancers still practicing this dance in Italy.
Two dancers, Gianmaria Borzillo and Giovanfrancesco Giannini, perform to a techno beat as a way to revive these almost forgotten steps and interrupt the "last dance" of the polka chinata.
Originally performed by men, this popular seduction dance – in which the dancers' embrace gradually allows them to spin around, knees bent without letting go – was created in Bologna in the 20th century.
PS! Do you want to learn the dance? The dancers hold a workshop for the public.
PS! In case of bad weather, the performance will be held indoors. Follow our webpage for updates.
