In 2014, the very first NORDTING shook the Festspillene: A parliament with criticism of fisheries policy, oil sponsorship, and the Festspillene itself, causing both outrage and excitement among politicians, the press, and the public.
In 2019, the assembly opened at the bus station square in Harstad, with sing-alongs, vodka serving, and mapping of power and wealth in the city of Harstad. It caused a stir then too.
This year, both the Festspillene and NORDTING have anniversaries, and another meeting seems inevitable. This time, it will not be a giant parliament but rather pinprick operations in guerrilla format: Mental, geographical, and political conceptions will be challenged and shifted, and there will certainly be singing, toasting, and flag-waving when NORDTING celebrates 10 years as perhaps the region's most talked-about public art project.
