Gørild Mauseth and actors from the Gorky Dramatic Theatre in Vladivostok come to Harstad to present a unique version of Tolstoyan classic Anna Karenina. This work is a powerful account of courtship, love, passion, betrayal and death. The production is performed both in Russian and Norwegian.
An inspired norwegian-russian collaboration which has already taken Vladivostok by storm. Anna Karenina is the jewel in the crown of our Russian focus. Gørild Mauseth plays the role of one of history´s most celebrated femme fatale. Mauseth and established actors from Vladivostok´s Gorky Theatre give a performance which is elegant and graceful, but which above all brings a tear to the eye. The Norwegian public will come face to face with the Russian soul.
Anna Karenina is a married woman who succumbs to the intoxicating charm of the self-assured captain Vronsky. Shunned by polite society, her relationship with Vronsky becomes every more turbulent. Anna is thrown into a well of despair and takes her life by throwing herself under a train.
Morten Borgersen´s understated and brilliant interpretation of Tolstoy´s classic gives it a Scandinavian flavour. The minimalism makes the story even more touching, and is complemented by unadorned and elegant scenography. Armin Petras is the dramatist and Gørild Mauseth plays Anna in Norwegian whilst the rest of the cast speak in Russian.
The effect is hypnotic and underlines Anna´s alienation and isolation. Please click on the link below to hear an account of Anna Karenina by the leading actress.
Gørild Mauseth is a cutting-edge artist. She was the first female student from Northern Norway to be offered a place at the College of Drama in Oslo. Since then she has established an international career with celebrated roles in both film and theatre. Despite being based in Italy for many years Gørild has always retained a place in her heart for northern Norway.
- My roots are in Kjøllefjord, she asserts.
In order to discover who Anna Karenina was Gørild travelled back to her own childhood.
- Childhood experiences shape all our characters and are important for everyone, not least for Karenina, whose own history becomes clear during her dying moments; stated Mauseth in an interview with the newspaper Finnmarken last year.
She is joined by the cast of the M. Gorky Primorskii Academic Regional Dramatic Theatre.
