For many years they lived as normal children and teenagers in Norway, right up until they were sent back to their homeland. Families seeking asylum in Norway, can risk living in the country for many years without a residency permit.
Whilst the application for asylum and an appeal against rejection is being considered, children go to school, learn Norwegian, make friends and become members of the local community. They learn daily routines, and have their own dreams and ambitions. In the photo exhibition "The Return", this longtime child refugee tells us about her life now, and how she remembers it back in Norway.
The documentary photographer Andrea Gjestvang, has exhibited in galleries, museums and at photography festivals all over the world and was crowned Photographer of the Year at the world´s largest photography competition: The Sony World Photography Award (2013).
