Liima is a completely new constellation consisting of the Danish band Efterklang and the Finnish percussionist Tatu Rönkkö who play joyful elektro pop in the post rock genre. You will experience a unique, new and fresh initiative from the nordic music scene, with references to The Doors and David Bowie, who reach a much greater audience than this genre might indicate!
Efterklang was so enthusiastic about Tatu Rönkkö, that they felt compelled to form a new band together. Liima creates a joyful sound picture, full of unexpected musical structures and intricate details.
Liima´s music recalls echoes and resonance, but is more electronic with extra weight placed upon live improvisation. Spontaneity and collective improvisation was central to the work they released in the debut album ”ii” which was released in March this year. The songs were written during a four week stay in Finland, Berlin, Istanbul and Madeira, and each of these places has influenced the music in its own way. Each stay was rounded off by a closing concert with live performance of newly composed songs for the local public. This spontaneous approach has been a way of development for the band. Finally, all these different styles from the residencies were compiled together in one album, recorded in three hectic days in Berlin. Liima began in 2016 with a four week residency, first in London then in Copenhagen, with the rest of the spring being dedicated to a European tour for these guests of The Arctic Arts Festival.
The festival public will maybe recall a crazily energetic concert presented by Efterklang in the Nordic Hall in 2010, which was described by Harstad Tidende as one of the highlights of the festival that year.
