It´s a massive coup for us to be able to bring jazz maestro and Grammy Award winner Marian Petrescu to Harstad. This concert will be one of the entire festival´s artistic summits. Marian´s trio perform classic jazz with scintillating vitality and virtuosity, which brings the magic of Bill Evans, Oscar Peterson and Art Tatum back to life.
Marian Petrescu is a true master of improvisation, with effortless control over everything from ragtime to modern jazz. He sizes up the piano like a beloved sparring partner, long lost buddy and lover all at the same time! Somehow he gets both lost in the music yet remains in electric contact with his audience. Tremendous stage presence, peerless technical prowess, fingers like the wings of a hummingbird, Petrescu will leave no musical stone unturned. Be-pop, swing, stride piano and blues…a kaleidoscope of Jazz awaits.
Marian Petrescu is greatly inspired by Oscar Peterson, a true legend of the 20th century. Maybe that´s why US studio technicians have called Marian "Oscar Peterson on steroids". Petrescu has recieved standing ovations over the whole world for breathing life back into the wonderful legacy of the Canadian jazz Goliath.
Petrescu was born in Bucharest and comes from a musical family. He took a liking to the piano aged 5. At 15 he made his debut at the Pori Jazz Festival in Finland. Since then he has blessed stages all over the world. He has performed in Australia, Mexico City, Oslo, Vienna and Paris, plus at the Kremlin Classical Piano Festival in Russia, and is presently living in Finland.
Petrescu studied at the Sibelius Akademi in Helsinki. Amongst his various releases we can mention the album "Body & Soul". There have been many great artists who have collaborated with him including the Ray Charles Band, Jon Larsen and Hot Club de Norvege.
When it comes to jazz Marian Petrescu will quite simply blow your mind.
