In this workshop, playing together is at the centre. We will work on performing as a band, developing songs and pieces of music, and exploring how different instruments and voices can find their place in a shared expression.
Whether you play guitar, bass, drums, piano, a wind instrument, a string instrument – or sing – you can take part.
As a participant in this workshop, you can:
- play together in a band
- develop ensemble and listening skills
- create your own songs together
- work with arrangement and structure
- explore dynamics, groove and expression
- test out ideas and build on them together
- perform as part of the full NUK showing
The workshop is led by experienced musicians who will give you specific tasks and guidance throughout the week – both in ensemble playing and in the songwriting process.
From rehearsal room to your own expression – a musical community
How do you make a song click? How do you find the balance between taking up space and giving space to others?
In this workshop, we work with both playing skills and collaboration. You will learn to develop your own role in the band, while together we build a shared expression. We can take different genres as our starting point – everything from pop and rock to indie, soul or something else entirely – and adapt to what the group wants to explore. The main focus is on experiencing the joy of playing together and creating something that is greater than the sum of its parts.
Playing in a band is not only about notes and technique – it is about communication, collaboration and trust. Throughout the week, you will develop both your musical skills and your ability to listen, support and challenge one another.
Level
The workshop is suitable for anyone with some or lots of experience with an instrument or singing, and who would like to develop further through playing with others. Tasks will be adapted to the level of the group, so that everyone gets challenges suited to them. You can write about your experience in the application form.
