Joik at the core
At the front is joik master John André Eira from Mazé in Guovdageaidnu. Carrying the voices of his ancestors alongside his own compositions, he brings joik into a contemporary musical landscape. Around him, a band sound takes shape that can feel both haunting and deeply compelling – music that hits the body before it reaches the mind.
Gabba’s distinctive sound grows out of a close-knit musical community. The band members live together, play together and create together – also in other projects such as Svarte Svaner and Tæladylju. This closeness is audible in their interplay, which is playful, intuitive and charged with energy.
A world of their own
On their latest album, Gabba have captured the atmosphere of Smestániá – the band’s own world in the house Drengestua in Oslo. Here, joik, blues, hip hop, folk music and African rhythms flow together naturally, occasionally spiced with hints of Indian sonorities. The music is more energetic and youthful than before, while the expression has grown in depth and maturity.
Here you can expect an authentic concert experience, marked by youthful energy, powerful rhythms and an expression that constantly moves between tradition and the present moment.
This concert is for you if you:
- enjoy atmospheric music with a strong sense of rhythm and memorable melodies
- are open to new musical expressions that blend tradition and contemporary influences
- want a concert experience that is grounded, energetic and deeply engaging
