Conducted by Alejandro Pance, the choir is joined by an ensemble with the bandoneon as its pulsing heart. The instrument, brought to Buenos Aires by European immigrants in the 19th century, quickly became the very sound of tango, and is inseparably linked to composers such as Astor Piazzolla.
From Buenos Aires to a Northern Norwegian sound
Misatango is dedicated to Buenos Aires and has in recent years become one of the most frequently performed Argentinian works in the world. It combines the fixed sections of the Latin mass with the rhythms and harmonies of tango. The music holds both melodic warmth and tighter, almost symphonic passages, where South American temperament meets the tradition of European church music.
The concert is supplemented with other music from the conductor’s home country, Argentina, offering an evening where solemnity and rhythmic drive go hand in hand. The result is an atmospheric and vivid experience – equal parts heartfelt and energetic.
This concert is for you if you:
- like choral singing with rhythm and a clear expressive character
- are curious about encounters between tango and classical tradition
- want a warm and atmospheric concert experience
