STEAM is a participatory sauna ritual in which dance artists Anne Katrine and Liv Hanne Haugen and Meagan O’Shea guide audiences through an intensified sensory state using essential oils, soundscapes and refreshments.
The project grew out of the stage work XwomXnseX, which explores women’s sexuality and how it changes through the different phases of life. In a desire to share more stories, the collective invited women into the sauna for conversations about the body, desire and transformation. How do we deal with change? How does the female body actually work? What triggers desire?

An intimate space for listening
The exploration has resulted in a soundtrack in four chapters, listened to in silence in the heat of the sauna. Between sessions, there will be opportunities to cool down. Stories of sexuality, pleasure, desire and surprise are shared by women across cultures and life stages.
The sweating body becomes part of a collective. STEAM creates an intimate meeting space where the senses open and experiences are shared.
