JåzzOngan presents the interactive music performance Jazzoo which takes the young on a journey into a jazzy animal world.
JåzzOngan is the Nordnorsk Jazzsenter´s section for children, and has a key aim of making jazz accessible for the young. This new project is launched through a wonderful music performance for children at the Arctic Arts Festival.
There were will be playful, improvised music by the Swedish jazz band Oddjob which will challenge and inspire children. The theme is music in the animal kingdom.
The band lead a dialogue with the public from the stage through an entirely instrumental concert. Children relate to the music with the help of illustrated pictures which ask questions such as: Will the penguin get over the road? Will the little fish be eaten by the shark? The pictures accompany bustling video projections and live performance. All directed at inspiring their young audience.
Jazzoo is a music project for children. It is also the name of the album Oddjob released in 2014. The same year they won a "Grammis" for the album and in 2015 won the prestigious "Grand Prix du Disque" which is awarded by the French Académie Charles-Cros.
Jazzoo is also an interactive album, where children are encouraged to follow the music in a picture book which describes different animals in the zoo. When Oddjob tour with Jazzoo they bring the animals along through picture projection shown during the performance.
Oddjob offers catchy swing from a top notch professional band. For nearly two decades they have been praised by audiences and press alike for albums and concerts both at home and abroad. They are always open to exploring new avenues in jazz and last Autumn released the album "Folk”, which delves into Swedish folk music through sampling recordings they dug up from the Swedish folksong archive.
