Five musicians who perform wistful and beautiful music as well as wild and virtuosic improvisations. Volosi from Poland consists of a musical meeting between three self-taught traditional musicians from the hinter land and two classically scholared brothers.
- We have a fundamental joy in communicating musically. It is a sensory experience, - we play with rhythmn, sound, harmony and echo.
Five artists who take us on a wild and evocative musical trip!
VOŁOSI have always been on the hunt through a rich forest of genres. They assert an infinity with a school of New Orleans-jazz which was born over a 100 years ago. Spontaneity and virtousic sparring help create that special VOŁOSI-sound.
VOŁOSI are one of today´s most foremost ensembles on the Polish world music scene. Thier debut at the The New Tradition Festival in 2010 brought widespread acclaim. One year later they won the Svetozar Stracina Grand Prix during The European Broadcasting Union´s ( EBU) gathering in Bratislava, and in 2012 the track "Dusk" hit the top 20 in the EBU´s World Music Chart, picked by 46 music critics from 26 European countries:
- A string quintet of astonishing virtuosity, Volosi create a magical and accessible blend of classicism and traditional Carpathian folk music, underpinned with melody and melancholy and the flavour of eastern Europe. World Music Charts Europe.
Since that auspicious debut VOŁOSI have given many concerts and visitied numerous festivals. Their tours in Germany, Denmark, Georgia, Ukriane and Belorussia have been received with great enthusiasm and glowing press write-ups. Now they are coming to Norway for the first time.
- It’s sparkling, full-blooded and glorious-toned, a heart-lifting surge of brilliantly-played, slithering, thrilling, scampering, surging, sobbing fiddles and chugging bowed bass. fRoots Magazine
