Festival Profile Benjamin Mørk has just released the EP ”Disco in Odd Times”, which shares its name with one of the concerts at this year´s Arctic Arts Festival.
Benjamin Mørk, originally from Senja, is a versatile artist. His first incarnation was in a piano based jazz quartet which produced the stunning jazz albums ”Karasho” (2013) and ”Meantime Lifetime” (2015). After a long time spent experimenting with analogue electronic instruments he had a desire to plump as they say for «something completely different». The result was a solo elektronika version of Mørk´s dagens lys released last Autumn with a new disco/Italo-song ”Tour de Senja”. The song was launched vis á vis a music video featuring a gold Lamborghini touring around scenic Senja, produced by the film director Carl Christian Lein Størmer.
In March 2016 came the premiere of a new music video, DIY (Do it yourself), put together by the dream team of: Martin Edelsteen (cinematography), Torbjørn Sandnes (light design), Mika Martinussen (clapperboard) and Terje Arntsen (continuity).
Mørk has created an unusual yet catchy musical universe packed with powerful synth-chords, humour and lashings of references to the (in his view) golden period from the end of the 70´s to the dawn of the 80´s.
Mørk is one of the country´s most exciting and creative artists.
”Disco in Odd Times” presents his fetching and somewhat eccentric electro-pop, coloured with hints of his jazz background closely coupled with the composer´s new found love of analogue electronics.
Mørk will be appearing in a live solo at the Arctic Arts Festival surrounded by all his machines, in nothing less than a world premiere!
In addition there will be a DJ-set before and after the concert led by the legendary Per Martinsen (Mental Overdrive).
