Talentakademiet

Talentakademiet

The Talent Academy has been held during the True Northern Arts Festival since 2021, and in 2026 we once again warmly welcome all artists in the Northern Norwegian talent cluster to the festival town of Harstad.

A hub for knowledge exchange, networking and artistic development

Through the Talent Academy, True Northern Arts Festival aims to offer participants in talent programmes in Northern Norway a professional community in which to experience the festival together. We will facilitate meeting points between the talents, artists and industry professionals taking part in the festival, while also offering a tailored professional programme created especially for them as a group.

Register for the Talent Academy

The Academy is planned for the period 20–23 June 2026, running alongside the festival’s regular programme and the industry platform Nordaførr. The talents will have travel, accommodation and meals covered, as well as a ticket to Nordaførr and an accreditation pass giving free access to the festival programme, subject to availability.

Nordaførr – the festival’s industry platform

As part of the Talent Academy, participants will also take part in Nordaførr, the festival’s meeting place for international and national industry professionals. Here, professionals from across the field gather for panels, artist talks and work-in-progress presentations. This is a unique opportunity to meet others from the field and gain insight into what is happening in the region and beyond.

This year’s theme: Risk

Risk is a fundamental part of every artistic practice: in process, in choices, in exposure, and especially in the transition into the professional field. At this year’s Talent Academy, you will explore how risk shapes your work, your methods and your artistic identity.

Over three days, talents from across the region will meet for workshops, conversations and professional immersion across artistic disciplines. The Talent Academy is a place to challenge yourself and your methods, and to build lasting relationships within the Northern Norwegian arts community.

This year’s seminars

Amund Sjølie Sveen – Risk as an artistic method
How do you relate to risk in your own work? How do you handle uncertainty, exposure and artistic choices that can either overturn or elevate a project? Sveen shares experiences and tools for actively using risk as a driving force in creative processes.

Hilde Halvorsrød – The risk of entering the professional field
The transition from talent to professional artist involves greater visibility and sharper criticism. Halvorsrød is music editor at Scenekunst.no, and explores how criticism can be both a vulnerability and a strength – and how you can use it to position yourself as an artist.

Barbara Simonsen – Risk in process
Simonsen is the author of The Art of Rehearsal, in which she explores and maps the most productive conditions and methods for creating new works for performers. Simonsen offers insight into how risk forms part of artistic development work, and how this can give you tools for seeking out the unknown in your own development process.
