Does Kven dance exist?
Experience Karhutanssi - a Kven dance performance with live music.
Movement is identity.
Movement is culture.
Movement is nature.
Kven dance exists!
Traditional dance and music meets contemporary dance and street dance, performed by top dancers from each field.
NB! There will be a discussion after the performance, at around 20:30 in the same hall.
With her Kven background, dancer, choreographer and actress Astrid Serine Hoel has focus on Kven culture and traditions. Hoel brought the composers Beddari Nilsen Ramstad into the project which presents both dancers and musicians. "Karhutanssi" translates as "Bear dance" in English.
Based on thorough research and collection of dance and movement material, there will be both traditional material and sequences with both house, break and contemporary dance.
Astrid Serine Hoel is a part of the Open Call program Festspillene i Nord-Norge is in collaboration with Talent Norge and Sparebank1 Nord-Norge. The artists in the program are introduced to international experts in their fields, which gives the opportunity to get input and perspective in the process, while at the same time the northern art field gets international links.
Co-produced with Kvääniteatteri and Festspillene i Nord-Norge.
