In a world full of turbulence and (white) noise, these artists try to reclaim and reassess the art of listening as well as creating space for contemplation, silence through new, beautiful compositions. These elements are reflected in a 60-minute song cycle dressed in the artists' characteristic soundscape.
The ticket package Storslått Søndag includes a ticket to The Art of Listening - Valgeir Sigurdsson & Festconcert in Tore Hund's kingdom. It also includes a bus from the center of Harstad at 16:30 and return from Bjarkøy at 20:00 (after the performance).
The Belgian countertenor and director Benjamin Abel Meirhaeghe and the Festival's Associate Artist 2021-2023, Icelandic Valgeir Sigurðsson, present the work "The Art of Listening", a unique combination between electronic and classical contemporary music. Among others, they have with them the violinist Elisabeth Klinck.
Composer and producer Valgeir Sigurðsson is known for his immersive sound world, which often blurs the boundaries between classical contemporary music and electronic production.
He has worked extensively as a producer, sound engineer and arranger for artists from all over the world, including Björk, Bonnie 'Prince' Billy, Feist, Tim Hecker, Anohni, CocoRosie, Jóhann Jóhannsson, Víkingur Ólafsson and many others. The New York Times named Dissonance Live one of the best shows at the Sónar festival in Barcelona in 2017.
Benjamin Abel Meirhaeghe is a director and singer who wants to rewrite the rules of opera and "liberate classical music, because it should belong to everyone". In his works, he mixes classical music with pop and contemporary scenography in a distinctive way.
Elisabeth Klinck (b. 1995) is active on the classical, electronic and experimental scene, and is currently working on her solo debut.
The project is a co-production between the Belgian institution for new classical music, B-Classic, the Festspillene i Nord-Norge and the Northern Lights Festival.
