Light is present in Sápmi in so many ways, in nature, the seasons and in people. The Sámi have been forced into the shadows, but even there, light and hope can be found.
In this concert performance you will meet composer Jakop Janssønn together with writers and poets from Sápmi. Through six newly written texts and newly composed music, interpretations of Čuovga (The Light) are conveyed. By spotlighting sounds, melody, expression and meaning, Janssønn amplifies and has a conversation with the authors' creations.
The authors Ánne Márjá Guttorm Graven, Niillas Holmberg, Niilas Helander, Ánná Káisá Partapuoli and Jörgen Stenberg are presented in a video work by visual artist Peter Knudsen.
A unique musical experience of the highest order.
The work was a commissioned work for Littfest in Umeå 2023, where the goal was to illuminate activist struggles in the north.
