World premiere: How do we relate to flight, fear and power? What concerns us?

Do we dare to have conversations that may feel challenging and exposing?

In the theatre performance Breath, written by Maiken Fredrikke Vembre, we meet the Girl. She has shut herself away, both mentally and physically, in a cabin – fleeing the world outside and trying to escape herself. She spends a lot of time lying on the floor. She reads, thinks, broods and dreams. The Girl moves between feelings of hope and powerlessness.

One day, she meets Her outside the cabin. Who is She, and why has she come here?

The body in motion

“It shakes. We rock. Cradled back and forth. Here and there. The body interprets it as safety … No one needs to keep watch, as long as we keep moving.”

Breath is conveyed through text, movement, water, sound and live video projection. A physical and sensory space is created, where the inner and outer worlds flow into one another. The performance explores what happens when we try to protect ourselves from the world – and what happens when something, or someone, breaks through.

The performance has its world premiere during True Northern Arts Festival 2026 and is suitable for young people and adults.

This performance is for you if you:

  • are curious about new performing arts and world premieres
  • want to experience a physical and visual theatre expression
  • are open to themes of fear, power and inner struggle

Supported by True Northern Arts Festival’s UngKunst Grant, SpareBank 1 Nord-Norge’s Artist Grant, Davvi – Centre for Performing Arts, Fritt Ord, Bergesenstiftelsen and Fri scenekunst – Arts and Culture Norway.
