The Erik Show (NO/DK)

Premiere

The Erik Show (NO/DK)

An intimate and life-affirming encounter between Erik and a celebrity – about presence, curiosity and genuine connection.

What happens when a celebrity encounter is not about celebrity, but about being human? In The Erik Show, Erik Victor Johnsen invites the audience into his entirely distinctive universe – and into encounters with different guests whom we are otherwise used to seeing from a distance.

Erik is on the autism spectrum and has his own way of approaching people. He is genuinely curious about other people’s stories, achievements and current relevance – but the conversations unfold on his terms. Through words, movements, sounds and physical presence, moments arise that are vulnerable, surprising and often humorous.

More than a talk show

This is not a traditional interview format. Under the artistic direction of Silje Solheim Johnsen, the performance moves in the borderland between conversation, choreography, concert and performance. With live music, sound art and a visually integrated stage space, a framework is created in which both the guest and Erik have to let go of control – and be present in what is actually happening.

Tonight’s special guest is Anneli Drecker: Norwegian singer, actor and one of Northern Norway’s most distinctive artistic voices.

The Erik Show plants its flag for humanity and reality. For show – yes. But also for sjov. It is intimate, life-affirming and full of unpredictable moments that can only arise when two people truly meet.

The performance is supported by Arts and Culture Norway and the Norwegian Fund for Sound and Image, and co-produced by Regional Arena for Samtidsdans and the True Northern Arts Festival.

This performance is for you if you:

  • are curious about performing arts that challenge the talk-show format
  • want to experience genuine encounters
  • enjoy performances that contain seriousness, warmth and humour
