China´s Ajinai bring us a dazzling mix of rock and blues, throat singing and traditional stringed instruments. Music inspired by the vast city of Beijing and the endless expanses of the Mongolian plains.
These four rock musicians are based in Beijing yet draw their inspiration from the plains of Mongolia and the soundscape of the big city. The combination of Khoomei (throat singing), and traditional stringed instruments morin khuur (horse head violin) and tobuxiur, gives their songs a hypnotic and unique magic.
In 2009 frontman Hugelijutu started the band with ambitions of transporting Mongolian music into the 21st century. The music hails from the far corners of China, and meets up in Beijing amidst a thriving contemporary music scene.
- For us as a band the key element is a sense of freedom in our music, and that we will never be limited by defined musical styles. That doesn´t mean we take up every musical direction but that we four have a clear idea of where we wish our music to go. All of us must be free to contribute with our ideas and we would like to set trends rather than follow them. Another key element lies in our texts. Here we have the possibility of sending out a message that people should take care of their environment and of one another, states frontman Hugelijetu.
The music is open and inquisitive, just as the music of their Mongolian forefathers was before them.
In a short time the band has achieved great popularity in China and also has a growing following in Asia, Europe and North-America.
At their Ludo concert you will soon find yourself longing to saddle up that horse and head off with the band to the far off plains of Mongolia. (In the ancient Indian language of Sanskrit Ajinai denotes a majestic and awe inspiring stead.)
