Recipient of our Young Artists Stipend 2015, Amelia Beavis-Harrison, presents a performance which draws inspiration from the witch trials in Finnmark.
The performance is called "Of Fire and Ice"; a literary theme foregrounding the elements of fire and ice. The fire of Witch´s pyres and the ice of the northern climate. The production brings together visual art with installation and scenic elements and involves audience participation.
Amelia Beavis-Harrison (28) has devoted a great deal of time towards study of this subject in recent years. This young, english artist is a student at the Kunstakademiet in Oslo. Amelia is delighted about the opportunity of presenting this work in Northern Norway where it clearly belongs.
-Receiving the stipend means a great deal for me. It gives me an opportunity to focus upon this special history, which draws parallels with social groups which are persecuted today, such as Romany people, states Beavis-Harrison.
At the Kunstakademiet in Oslo Amelia combines visual art with scenic elements in most of her work. The performance she will present at the Arts Festival of North Norway will be a powerful visual and aural tapestry which will bring this tragic history back to life.
It will also be the culmination of two earlier productions about Witchcraft which she presented in England and Oslo during the Spring of 2014.
