Our Festival Profile Artist takes along Niko Valkeapää from Finnish Sapmi, and the Norwegian Per Willy Aaserud to a unique night where Samí music and gourmet dishes are brought together. Each coupon covers an aperitif, a three course meal and a concert. We promise an unforgettable experience!
Our profile artist Georg Buljo (guitar and vocals/joik), Niko Valkeapää (vocals/joik) and Per Willy Aaserud (trumpet and keyboards) perform melodies based in the heart of Samí tradition.
The historic restaurant at Røkenes Gård (farm) have brought in sjefs with expertise in Samí dishes, who will serve the finest cuisine. Joik will take centre stage in the concert, but placed in a modern context by Valkeapää, Buljo and Aaserud.
The combination of great food and beautiful music from Sapmi bodes very well indeed! It took Finnish Samí artist Niko Valkeapää twelve years and five albums before he felt secure in approaching joik and traditional forms as expressed by Nils-Aslak Valkeapää. Today he is a sought after artist in many countries.
Since 1991 Per Willy Aaserud has worked as a musician based in Oslo. Silje Nergaard, D'Sound, Jim Stärk, Gisle Børge Styve, Niko Valkeapää, Unni Wilhelmsen and Mari Boine are amongst the many names he has worked with. Per Willy Aaserud has participated in over 70 CD-recordings, concerts and tours at home and abroad, and on television and radio.
Georg Buljo is our Festival Profile Artist. Buljo is a highly versatile musician and producer. He grew up in Gjøvik but has family roots in the village of Masi near Kautokeino.
