The Indie rock band Dikta are coming to the Arctic Arts Festival for the first time. Come along to an evening of alternative rock from this extremely popular band from Sagaøya out west!
There is something a little unique about Dikta´s melancholic rock tunes. After achieving success at home in Iceland, the USA and in Europe during recent years, Dikta have become one of their country´s hippest exports. Last year the album ”Easy Street” came out after several radio hits. The song 'Hope for the Best’ became the most played hit on Icelandic radio after it reached the top five last november.
Several of their singles have become favourites on rock radio channels in Iceland and Berlin. Dikta has appeared in recent years at various famous clubs and festivals in London, Copenhagen, Los Angeles and New York. They are regulars at the Iceland Airwaves festival on their home turf, and after a packed concert in 2006 received a rave review in Rolling Stone Magazine.
- … Dikta ... ended its set with a Nirvana-like blowout, "Chloe", from its latest Smekkleysa album, Hunting For Happiness, wrote David Fricke in the American magazine.
The Dikta lads state that they are inspired by Radiohead, Nirvana and the Smashing Pumpkins. The band began in a garage in Iceland in 1999 as childhood friends. In 2002 they released their first album and in 2005 their first album in english called ”Hunting for Happiness”, which became one of the highest selling albums in Icelandic pop music history. An achievement which brought a stream of engagements across Europe.
”Dikta”: to dictate something in English; denotes the process of composing music and penning poetry.
