Who is it that has moved into the centre of town? A group of refugees has set themselves down and now opens the door to a magic and strange universe where they share their memories, traditions and rituals. This is probably the closest we will come to squatting in Harstad. The performance is put together as a unique production for the north and guarantees to be one of the most memorable events at the Arctic Arts Festival this year.
After Kamkatcha´s absurd event in which people in flight will fill the centre, now the immigrants have settled down in a flat in town.
They have just moved in, and they seek to become accepted as part of the local community, without losing their own history and identity.
In their suitcase all new arrivals have stored away their own culture, habits and experiences. This is all expressed through a new language developed by Kamchatka. Now the living space is organised according to the immigrants´ new rules and culture. The house becomes a bridge between past and future and reflects their own histories and life.
Habitaculum is a completely unique experience. Pop along for a journey through a living installation. This story is universal but could easily be yours. Experience the account of their journey here, their memories, dreams and illusions. Gradually, you will begin to understand their principles. These new neighbours will awake your humanity and remind you of how easy your life is… Your new home is also a meeting place, where one can live simply and in proximity of one another and share with one another. Could you have lived here? Could we live together in different ways than we live today?
Habitaculum means a place to live and is the follow up to the street performance but you can enjoy the performance just as much even if you have not witnessed the former event.
Kamchatka is a renowned globetrotting theatre ensemble from Barcelona. Kamchatka was set up as an arts collective consisting of various nationalities and expression in 2006 with Adrian Schvarzstein at the helm. At the beginning there were intense rehearsals and improvisations in the streets of Barcelona, an ideal city for exploring the problems of integration, which has been a central theme of Kamchatka´s work.
