The Danish theatrical dance company DON GNU give the phrase «sloping shores» an entirely new meaning in the performance N.A.R.G. - North Arena Rumble Game. In this mesmerizing, specially tailored version, four dancers with guests (!) meet around a tilting stage in a spectacular, hair raising challenge of balance and cooperation.
Three men, one woman and a few extras struggle to maintain their balance, on a five meters wide, half tonne tilting stage called The Turmoil, which is a specially built stage for theatrical dance. In the critically acclaimed performance N.A.R.G. the dancers throw themselves into an explosive encounter with tough forces and human challenges. Breathless choreography and striking visual scenography in which the dancers constantly struggle for power, seek to keep their balance and look to find some harmony together. DON GNU have created a production specially choreographed for the Arctic Arts Festival.
The company presented the premiere of N.A.R.G. in the Autumn of 2014 at home in Århus and have enjoyed great success both domestically and abroad. This is the first time they come to Norway on tour. DON GNU is an international touring theatre which promotes physical theatre and modern dance as an art form. DON GNU is the creation of two dancers and choreographers; Jannik Elkær (Don) and Kristoffer Louis Andrup Pedersen (Gnu). In 2013 the duo became a trio when they were joined by the Norwegian photographer Christoffer Brekne who had worked with them since 2010. The company was picked to present Dance of the the Year 2016. They chimed in with TA’ FAT OM DANSEN where everyone in the workplace was invited to join in.
This performance is supported with funds from Statens Kunstfond, Aarhus Kommune, Nordisk Kulturfond and Augustinusfonden. It is co-produced by Bora Bora and Jojo - Oulu Dance Center.
