This performance with Inuit throat singer Tanya Tagaq is an absolute «must-see» event at this year´s festival. A polar punk diva you will take a very long time to forget!
Tanya Tagaq´s music is in a genre all of it´s own. The Canadian throat singer has a unique vocal style which blends traditional expression with in-your-face avant-garde passion, classic expressionism and electronics, creating a tapestry of blinding creativity.
Tanya Tagaq really does take us to the outer limits of virtuosity and raw energy. Her concerts have created deep impressions the world over. She is a genuine globetrotter. She can come straight from a Mexican electronic music festival and walk straight into the plush surroundings of Carnegie Hall. Tanya´s performances convey a universal musical and dramatic language. Timeless in spirit.
In 2014 she won the prestigious Canadian Polaris Music Prize for the album ”Animism” and is now recognised as a world leading indigenous artist. She is highly respected and loved throughout the arts branch. Tagaq has won admirers the world over with her strikingly original artistic expression. She has worked closely with Bjørk, and perhaps, if she can compared with anyone, it is with this uncompromising, endlessly creative and experimental artist.
In January last year Tanya released the single ”Aorta”. Tanya can be described as both an Inuit singer and Nunavut musician, as she hails originally from this remote district of northern Canada.
