Danish artist Jakob la Cour is behind this mixed reality experience, which premiered at the Royal Danish Theatre in Copenhagen in 2023. In the touring version, a small audience encounters a space filled with light, spatial sound and digital elements.
Equipped with VR headsets, participants step into a shared sensory universe. Here, you move through a kind of mini-cosmos where the physical space and the digital world flow into one another. The experience is controlled by an interactive system that responds to the audience – giving each run-through its own rhythm and dynamic.
A shared experience
Hybrid Sensation explores how technology affects the way we experience the body, identity and reality. Through light, sound and virtual landscapes, the work opens up new ways of sensing the world.
Audiences take part in small groups, and a host introduces the experience before you enter the installation together. Along the way, you are guided through an atmospheric and almost ritual-like journey where mystery, small glitches and surprises are part of the universe.

When performing arts meet technology
The performance lasts around 30 minutes and is developed as an immersive VR installation – a form of performing arts in which technology, space and audience create the experience together. Only eight participants can take part in each run-through, making the experience both personal and intense. Suitable for ages 10 and up.
This performance is for you if you:
- are curious about VR, technology and new forms of performing arts
- enjoy experiences where the audience actively takes part
- want to try something different and sensory at the festival
