Lihkku beivviin!

We are celebrating Sami National Day by presenting some of the performances coming to Festspillene i Nord-Norge this summer, and as usual we will celebrate our Sami program with 3 for 2 on these performances.

Festival exhibition 2025 by Máret Ánne Sara

Máret Ánne Sara explores modern materiality and social logic in the face of Sami philosophy and worldview in this year's Festival Exhibition. In Støperiet, snowmobile belts are mounted from ceiling to floor, and work to prepare for the exhibition started in January. As part of the exhibition, a performance that uses indigenous science as a method is being developed.

- Máret Ánne Sara has received deserved international attention in recent years and has a clear, important and socially engaged artistic voice. I am really looking forward to experiencing her work in Støperiet this summer. It is fantastic that our audience has the opportunity to see the exhibition of one of our strongest artists today, says festival director Ragnheiður Skúladóttir.

Timeless and powerful pop music in Northern Sami language

Ella Marie is a Sami artist and activist from Tana in Finnmark. Through seven years as the lead singer of the band ISÁK, she has been praised for her energetic stage personality and passionate communication of joik. Now she is going solo and coming to Nordic Hall with a full band.

- In Ella Marie's music we hear the sadness over the cultural loss the Sami people have experienced, but also a celebration of strong Sami resilience and unity. Her activism has engaged, touched and communicated important indigenous perspectives to a large part of Norwegian society. In addition, Elle Marie's career is on the way to take off, and we are sure that many will attend her concert in Nordic Hall, continues Skúladóttir.

Concert perfomance with Jakop Janssønn

This concert performance brings together writers and poets from Sápmi, who talk about their interpretations of Čuovga (The Light). The work was commissioned for Littfest in Umeå 2023, where the aim was to shed light on activist struggles in the north. The music, composed by Jakop Janssønn, is based on six newly written texts.

- Since he was a young artist at the Festival in 2016, Jakop Janssønn has had a fantastic career as a drummer and composer. He has created wonderful film music and commissioned works that are full of power and atmosphere. When he now sets music to these texts, we look forward to a unique musical experience of the highest order, says Skúladóttir.
