Mellow Marsh at the Festival in 2025
Since 2019, the Festival, in collaboration with Talent Norway and Sparebank1 Nord-Norge, has distributed funds for artistic development projects, often with a starting point in the north. The next project to receive production funding and premiere during the Festival 2025 is the performance "Mellow Marsh Corpus" by Oda Holmvik Bredvold and Helgeland International Theater.
Helgeland International Theater was established in 2022, and "Mellow Marsh Corpus" is the company's first production, based on an environmentally conscious food cart.
- Being part of the Open Call program for the Festivals for 2023-2025 provides us with meeting places with other artists, and it's a great opportunity for us to establish ourselves in the independent performing arts field in Northern Norway and become visible. It's hugely significant that we have a venue and a premiere date at one of the longest-standing cultural arenas in Northern Norway! And it's wonderful to have all this time before the premiere to explore, play in the process, and meet young people who are helping to shape what this performance ultimately becomes," says Oda Holmvik Bredvold, Artistic Director of Helgeland International Theater.
Youth Taken Seriously
With this performance, the artists aim to expand young people's understanding of themselves and the world by playing with issues that concern youth, all with the goal of breaking stereotypes, norms, and the status quo. In the performance, the food cart seeks out youth and becomes a meeting place that interacts with the youngsters and takes them seriously.
"It's amazing how many really exciting projects are being created for and with youth in recent years; it's like a wave. Helgeland International Theater is one of the newest theater companies in the north and they have chosen an interesting concept for their first performance. With youth and for youth. I have high expectations that the project will reach a wide audience and be fun, sharp, and inspiring," says Ragnheiður Skúladóttir.
Sustainable Architecture
The food cart will also have an additional dimension in conveying sustainability and resource use. For HIT, the cart is a way to visualize what energies, show youth other ways to build, and create awareness of our dependence on nature, and also how we are a part of it.
