Since 1997, the Arctic Arts Festival has awarded scholarships to young, unestablished artists. These youth art projects have consolidated their position in the Arctic Arts Programme, and both the audience and the press are interested in these projects. Now artists with an affiliaton to Northern Norway may apply for support to realise their ideas for art projects.

Every year, the Arctic Arts Festival searches for young artists with exciting ideas that they dream of realising. We award up two scholarships of up to NOK 150,000 each. The project may contain all genres and art forms, and we are looking for new ideas and angles - usually experimental, genre-crossing and with an international section.

Several well-established artists have received this scholarship in the past.

- "We want to highlight young artists with potential and an uncompromising approach to their art. We see that the result of our international commitment is that art from the north now is of great interest both nationally and internationally, and we like to see projects where there is cooperation across the circumpolar north," says festival director Maria Utsi

The various applications are assessed annually by a jury consisting of external professionals in addition to the festival management.

The application deadline for 2019 is 15 March 2018.
